Were were you? How old were you?
I was in another world called, sleep until my nemisis, the alarm clock decided
to stay persistant and wake me up. ..my story is below...
Well, here's some guy's story...parts of it in order.
""
The next thing I noticed was clicking sounds, like things were falling. As I
looked up I saw smoke billowing from WTC1, North Tower. I put another call into the walkie-talkie to Ish to say, "They blew
up the WTC, it's on fire."
So I go to the man on the ground and as I get closer I begin to see that the
man's body is completely burned. All of his body hair was burned off & it seemed as if his eyelids were also burned off.
He was scrunched up in the fetal position with his head a few inched above the ground. Amazingly he was alive & I told
him it was going to be okay. He replied with an "okay".
I ran up West Street & began to walk as I grew tired. I found myself
surrounded by other people. Words were exchanged with the other people running away. This has to be terrorists &
they are trying to knock down the buildings. One man theorized that the point was to knock the buildings down as it was first
planned in 1993.
People were standing around staring at the burning Twin Towers. I heard children
crying as well adults. I heard loud yelling, things like "oh my God"! "holy shit"! did you see that"? "I can't look," "there's
another one!" So I turned to see what they were staring at & saw a slow continuous flow of bodies dropping, jumping and
falling from out of the Twin Towers. I thought to myself, what if there were a third plane, if the second plane had made it
through the building it would have landed where we stood. I got onto high ground, a park bench I think, & yelled into
the crowd from behind, " if there's a third plane, we're all a fucking target! Get the hell out of here"!
In the rear view mirror. I notice the building begin to collapse and turn around
to watch it fall. I start to cry & he pats me on the back & tells me that he has a son in 7 World Trade
Center. He wondered if he was okay. He begins to cry too. Here we are, two grown men, crying our eyes out in traffic.
From September 11th to early January, I spent countless nights tossing &
turning & having the weirdest nightmares one could ever imagine. It mostly involved falling airplanes crashing all
around me.
If you want you could visit a link to a time line of events that day &
I come out when the second plane hits & he says the time is 9:02 am, just go to www.msnbc.com/modules/wtc/video/standalone.asp scroll
down & look for the picture of the towers burning and click it.
My little sister told me there's
a song by Linkin Park called "Crawling:WTC Tribute""
And I was....
.....I was 31....I was living in Portland Oregon (as I am currently while writing this)
..and my alarm went off....Jon still far far away in his world beyond
consciousness. I woke up in my scrubs got ready, got out of my scrubs to
go to work to change back into scrubs.
I didn't notice anything different about the gooey morning. I got on the Holgate
bus as usual, to go to good ole, OHSU. I heard from some older man sitting across from me that some airplane had hit
the world trade towers. I was still NOT awake. I do not like mornings & usually avoid hearing the human voice
as effectively as I can by listening to world news on my headphones but I hadn't even put them on yet & I heard a portion
of the news. ....Not like I would have escaped it anyway had I put on my headphones to listen to World News.
I was temped to question that guy of what he said. Then I kept hearing more &
more about it on my way to work. As I got within 500 ft (downhill) from work I finally heard someone say a second
plane rammed into the towers.
This time I had a serious curiosity. I woke up this time. I wanted to listen
to possible news about it & put on my headphones. ...There is was...9-11 news all over the place. Man I couldn't
believe what I was hearing. I figured it had been a terrorist thing after I heard of a second plane. The image
I had, of course, was a prop plane. I almost laughed at the thought of it if it were, indeed, terrorists.
(forgive me)
I walk into the building at work and heard all these people yapping about it. I ignored
it until I reached the 6th floor were I was to change into my scrubs for the day. My boss's boss came in and said,
"People, this is an event that is going to change the world".
Well, I was too distracted to work so I pittered into the O.R. breakroom & ate toast
& watched the one t.v. they had in the corner near the ceiling. ...Surgeons & nurses & assistants all over
the place. Not often you see surgeons hanging out in the O.R. breakroom. They're sick enough of their support as it
is. A person w/ so much on his/her mind would turn out that way I guess. I would too I'm thinkin.
A goofy co-worker strolls in w/ a typical and cute comment...."well, I guess we'll have
some new postcards of the world trade center, ehh?"
I know....that's terrible. we're only human right? Besides, we were all
a thousand miles away. Human nature has ways of comic relief. Or does it?
So I finelly decided to go to work...I mean, start some kind of work there. I
ran back into the break room only minutes after I left to see/watch the 1st tower fall. I actually couldn't believe
what I was watching. I understood it though.....the building was fractured. I went back to work to stand around
& ran back into the break room to watch the other tower fall. At this point I thought..."Dam..."
